An unbeaten season hung in the balance when Nova Wooten strolled to the plate as the final batter in the Centertown T-ball championship game. Every fan in attendance rose on their feet and every player for Smedley's Auto got down and ready in the dirt hoping to get the game-winning out. The pressure could've been immense for a pro, but the Smile Doctors slugger never even flinched.
Wooten delivered a game-winning grand slam to lift Smile Doctors to a thrilling 22-21 victory over Smedley's Auto in the finals. It completed a perfect 11-0 year for the group.
The bases were juiced when Wooten stepped to the plate and her team needed every runner to score to keep the game alive, so she wasn't leaving any doubt on her swings. She took two mighty cuts that shook the ball off the tee before she connected on the game winner. She hit a liner over second base, sending every Smedley's Auto defender running toward the fence as all the Smile Doctors runners were flying around the bases. At the end, Wooten was able to win a foot race home by a single step to ensure victory. She was mobbed by coaches and teammates after the win. Fittingly, Wooten was flashing a huge smile after coming up clutch for her team - the perfect way for Smile Doctors to finish the year.
