Playing in the Gallatin FCA tournament was a blessing for the Pioneers over the weekend. Warren County was able to pick up a pair of victories, beating the Northwest Vikings 9-5 Friday and East Robertson Indians 7-3 Saturday.
Warren County did fall in its final game, losing 7-3 to Gallatin to run its record to 10-10 overall this season.
The Pioneers came into the weekend event with a tough 2-4 record in April, but things started changing Friday when Evan Snapp and Baler Melton electricfied on the mound and Aiden Miller kept slugging. Snapp (seven Ks) and Melton (three Ks) combined for 10 strikeouts in the win over the Vikings, while Miller raised his season average to a robust .420 with two hits and three RBIs against Northwest.
Miller ignited a four-run third inning with a two-run single and started another four-run frame in the sixth with another RBI single. Easton Denning added a go-ahead triple to break a 4-4 tie in the fourth and Melton helped his cause on the mound with a two-run double in the sixth that put the game away.
Alex van Vuuren was dealing on the mound in Saturday morning's victory, going the distance and allowing just six hits to the Indians over seven innings.
Tyler 'T-Bone' Adams was the catalyst for a big showing at the plate for the Pioneers in second win, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. He delivered with a run-scoring single in the first and added a two-run single in the second as the Pioneers built a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
Miller, Melton and Denning also had RBI hits in the win.
Hayven Jones took the loss against Gallatin on the bump, while Melton, Adams and Corban Felton had RBI hits in the defeat.
