Pioneer sophomore Ryland Holder, seen in a previous game, had one hit and one RBI in Monday's 5-3 loss to White County.

The Pioneers lost their grip on the District 6AAA title Monday in Sparta.

Warren County lost 5-3 to White County, setting up a potential three-way tie for the regular-season championship.

Warren County (13-16) is now 5-2 in district play, as are the Warriors and the Cookeville Cavaliers (following their 12-2 win over Stone Memorial Monday). The Pioneers still had a chance to win the district, but needed a win Tuesday at home over White County. Results were unavailable at press time.

The Warriors took control of Monday's matchup with a four-run third inning, then withstood a late charge to take down the Pioneers.

Warren County trailed 5-1 entering the sixth, but cut the lead in half after a Will Cantrell sacfrice fly and RBI single from Hunter Adams.

The Pioneers had a chance to slice the lead further, but a strikeout ended the inning with a runner on third. Warren County went down in order in the seventh.

It was the first game without offensive leader Brooks Helton and his absence was notable. The Pioneers were held to just four hits.

Adams, Cantrell and Ryland Holder all finished with one hit and one RBI each. Ethan Smith also had one hit.

Dylan Ward took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over six innings of work.
