Benito Mirafuentez makes an acrobatic kick during a game earlier this season. Mirafuentez and the Pioneers lost a hard-fought battle Tuesday in the first round of the regional tournament to the Cleveland Blue Raiders.

The Warren County High school soccer team traveled to Cleveland for the first round of the regional tournament against the Cleveland Blue Raiders.
The Pioneers played tough against the Blue Raiders thanks to a strong defense, but ultimately fell, 3-1, ending their season.
The game was back-and-forth throughout, with both teams having chances on goal.  Cleveland has a powerful and fast offense but the Pioneers kept the Blue Raider from scoring with strong defense until the last five minutes of the first half.
The Blue Raiders took a corner kick that Pioneer goalie J.D. Keele swatted away but the ball landed at the feet of a Blue Raider player, helping them score an easy goal, 1-0.
Both teams went into halftime with the score remaining the same. The Pioneers received some bad news as speedy Adrian Tejas got hurt late in the first half, ending his night. The Pioneers continued to play stout defense at the start of the second half, until the Blue Raiders got behind the defense and scored their second goal of the night, 2-0.
The game seemed to be slipping away from the Pioneers as the Blue Raiders kept subbing in players to rest their starters while the Pioneers kept the same lineup on the field. Juan Casas received the ball and was able to find some space and he took a beautiful shot from 25 yards out just over the keeper to give the Pioneers new life, 2-1.
Keele and the defense kept absorbing shots, keeping the Blue Raiders from extending their lead but in the last few minutes, the Blue Raiders found the net yet again and put the game away for good, 3-1. With time running out, WCHS coach Orion Smith started allowing other players to enter the game.
The whistle finally sounded and the Pioneers season ended in regionals, 3-1, at the hands of the Blue Raiders.
