Van Buren County has dominated archery in the Midstate for most of the decade, but Warren County seems ready to challenge their supremacy. In last Saturday’s archery tournament held in Van Buren County, teams from Hickory Creek and West Elementary claimed the top two spots in the elementary division while Dibrell and Warren County Middle School took top honors in the middle school division.Local kids could be spotted on the leader board in nearly every category as archery has grown tremendously across the county. West Elementary archery coach Kathie Hodge, who started coaching archery six years ago with Mary Greer at WCMS, was ecstatic to see her archers – past and present – succeed at such a high level against a tough field.“A lot of the students on each team I’ve had in classes at the Civic Center. I joked with WCMS coach Larry Underhill that I was taking credit for his win,” said Hodge.
