Mansfield's late 3-pointer helps earn win for WCMS
Pioneers take dramatic victory over White County
Carter Mansfield sets his sights and fires a 3-pointer that propels the Pioneers into the lead as time ran out against the Warriors from White County on Tuesday.

With seconds remaining, the Pioneers were down two points, 39-37. Carter Mansfield slipped free and took the pass and quickly fired a 3-pointer over the White County defense. The shot hit its mark and WCMS claimed the lead at 40-39 and White County called for timeout.
Out of the timeout, White County attempted a long pass that traveled over much of the Pioneer defense.
The pass was knocked away and Eli Jones gathered the loose ball. He was fouled immediately and walked the length of the floor where he buried both free throws and cemented a 42-39 WCMS win over White County on Tuesday night.
White County had just enough time to inbound the ball but not enough time for a decent shot attempt and the Warriors were defeated.
It was the final home game of the season for WCMS. The sharp-shooting Warriors took aim at the Pioneers and let it fly from outside. The Warriors connected on six shots from behind the arch. It came right down to the wire and the Pioneers escaped.
Kegan Dodson of White County led all scorers with a game-high 18 points. Many of his points came from behind the three-point line. Micah Webster of WCMS led the Pioneers as he pounded the ball inside for 16 points.
The final period was a back-and-forth, see-saw battle. Dustin Guy aimed and fired twice from behind the arch, hitting his target. Teammate Macyn Winningham added six points in the final period.
The game’s high scorer got free for his fourth 3-pointer despite the Pioneer defense’s best effort to contain him.
Webster was fed the ball inside the post throughout the fourth quarter. He was rewarded for his efforts with two hard-earned baskets and a pair of free throws. Jerry Mrema used his quickness to get to the basket for his only shot from the floor.
Mansfield delivered the blow that devastated the White County defense and catapulted the Pioneers into the lead. Then it was the sharp-shooting Jones who buried a pair of free throws for the win.
WCMS led at the half 17-8 after a 13-point second quarter by WCMS.
