The Warren County Lady Pioneers snapped an eight-game losing streak Monday night in Murfreesboro. The Lady Pioneers hit the Lady Stars with an arsenal of offense and defeated Siegel by a convincing 63-22.
Warren County fired a barrage of shots from behind the arch and the Lady Pioneers hit their mark 10 times.
Elsa Eckenrod lit up Siegel and scored a game-high 18 points. She hit three deep 3-pointers and shot 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Warren County led 28-17 at the half and opened up the offense in the second half. As impressive as the offense looked, the Lady Pioneer defense dominated and controlled the second half, holding Siegel to a mere five points. Tyra Wright was relentless on defense and she blocked shot after shot.
The Lady Pioneers outscored Siegel 35-5 in the third and fourth quarters combined. Eckenrod dropped eight points in the third as the Siegel defense took a nap.
It was more Warren County offense in the fourth and the Lady Pioneer reserves hit the floor and continued the assault. Megan Patch and Jayden Smith continued to fire from behind the arch. Tyra Wright and Marlee Smith carried the team inside down the stretch.
Siegel had little to no offense the entire second half and it led the Lady Stars to a grim demise. Warren County defeated Siegel by a final score of 63-22.
It took all of the first eight minutes for Warren County to separate from Siegel. The Lady Pioneers were quicker to the loose balls and found their range much sooner than the Lady Stars anticipated. Allison Hitchcock spotted up from way outside and connected on the first 3-pointer of the night.
Saydee Winfree made a hard move to the basket and took her defender off the dribble. Defensive help showed up too late and Winfree was fouled under the basket. The shot dropped and she completed the three-point play.
Ecknrod got off to a promising start in the first and added four points. At the end of one quarter, Warren County led 10-1.
Siegel picked up its pace in the second period and started to resemble a basketball team. Mia Metcalf got inside the Lady Pioneer defense and scored her first four points.
Patricia Brown got inside the Warren County defense and she was fouled on her way to the basket. She walked up to the free-throw line and buried both free throws.
The Lady Stars kept pace on offense in the second quarter, but fell short on defense. Siegel packed the defense inside the paint and forced Warren County to shoot from outside. Callie Cathcart and Saydee Winfree slipped free and buried long 3-pointers. At the half, Warren County extended its lead, 28-17.
It was all Lady Pioneers in the second half and the Lady Stars fizzled out. Warren County got back in the win column with a 63-22 win over Siegel.
