Playing host to the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats in their season opener, the Lady Pioneers had smooth sailing as they handily defeated the Lady Wildcats, 70-44, Monday night.
Playing their own style of defense by pressing their opponents while man-to-man or in the zone, plus playing offense like a well-oiled machine, was the recipe for success when it comes to winning ball games, and the Lady Pioneers started the night off right with a big home win delighting the crowd.
“It was definitely a fundamental team effort tonight,” said Lady Pioneer coach Shea Panter. “We hit from outside, shot well and kept that killer mentality throughout. It was nice to give the fans a good show on our home opener.”
Leading the offense for the Lady Pioneers was Elsa Eckenrod with 15 points, 9 made while dialing long distance. Megan Patch followed closely behind with 13 total points and three 3-pointers to her credit as well.
Tyra Wright scored 11 points, Emily Mikkola and Anna Bain were steadfast with 7 points each, Callie Cathcart hit for 5 points, Kaylee Chisam and Marah Wannamaker both hit 4 points each and Grace Rains and Rae Anna Hodges both scored 2 points.
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Cannon County on Tuesday night for game two of the season. Results were not available at press time.
