Lady Pioneers clinch district title

For the second straight year, the path to the District 6-AAA tournament championship in girls soccer will run through Warren County.The Lady Pioneers clinched the District 6-AAA regular-season championship and home field throughout the district tournament Tuesday night by defeating the Cookeville Lady Cavaliers 4-1 in front of a packed crowd at Warren County High School.It was a tale of two halves as Warren County went to halftime trailing 1-0, but flipped a switch in the second half and scored four unanswered goals to improve to 11-6 overall and 6-1 in District 6-AAA.The Lady Pioneers went to Cumberland County last night with a chance to win the championship outright, but the victory would merely be a formality as Warren County owns the tiebreaker over Cookeville should the two teams finish the regular season in a tie. Results from last night’s game were unavailable at press time.Coach Todd Willmore and his team reveled in the big victory over Cookeville Tuesday night, especially considering the stakes and big comeback in the second half.Coach Willmore applauded his team for its ability to change the game after halftime with great team play.“It was an unbelievable second half,” said Willmore. “We had great team effort.
