The Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneers put on a valiant second-half rally Thursday night as they traveled to Franklin County South, but the Lady Trojans pulled out a 4-point win at the buzzer 34-30 after the Lady Pioneers left everything on the hardwood.
“We started off slow, and we played great in the second half,” said Warren County Middle School coach Isaiah Phillips. “We shot better from the free-throw line. I was proud of each of them.”
The Lady Pioneers shot 69 percent from the charity stripe, hitting 9-of-13, while the Lady Trojans were 48 percent going 10-of-21.
Warren County outscored South 24-16 in the second half, but it was just shy of making up the earlier deficit when time expired.
Franklin County South kept up a steady offense in four quarters, with the highest being 10 in the second quarter. But slow and steady wins the race and the Lady Trojans’ tally was consistent enough to hang on for the win.
Rylan Wolkonswski was top gun for the Lady Trojans with a game-high 12 points.
The Lady Pioneers distributed the basketball well with Madalyn Stubblefield leading the drive with 8 points, Kaydee Rains 7, Nautica Brown 6, Kamryn Nowlin 4, Taylor Swan 3, and Kadence Ledbetter with 2 points.
The Warren County Lady Pioneers play host to White County in their final regular-season game Thursday, Jan. 19. Game time is 6 p.m.
