Eastside’s Lady Bulldogs continue their bid for a 5-6 grade basketball undefeated season, winning handily, 35-17, over the Lady Broncos at Boyd Christian School.
After a close first quarter, 8-8, the Lady Bronco offense fell by the wayside as Eastside held a 20-10 lead at the half.
“It was a good effort on both sides,” said Eastside Lady Bulldog head coach Paul Rudicel, or coach Rudi as he’s called.
Coach Rudi, also the SRO at Eastside School, took the helm of the Lady Bulldogs just two weeks ago and is enjoying the challenge of coaching an undefeated team. “It’s an honor to protect the kids security at work and an honor to be with them in their athletic pursuits as well.”
After halftime, the Lady Bulldogs kept the pressure on, outscoring Boyd 15-7.
“We started to play our game. A tough Lady Bulldog D forced turnovers we were then able to capitalize on,” Rudicel said. “It was a privilege playing such a good team like the Lady Broncos.”
Eastside’s Sable Winfree led the scoring drive with 10 total game points, followed closely by point guard Shelby Smartt who scored 8 points.
Distributing the basketball well, Emma Cordell scored 6 points, Kelly Bush 4, and Katie Carter, Dallis Melton and Katie Carter all hit for 2 points.
Boyd’s scoring total was led by Ava Jones with 8 points, Sydney Gilley 4, Emma Young 3 and Bella Stiles with 2 points.
The Lady Broncos travel to Hickory Creek, while the Lady Bulldogs will play host to Centertown on Monday, Nov. 21. Game time is 6 p.m.
