The Southern Standard, partnering with Kevin Rhoton - Farm Bureau Agent, we will be honoring a Bronco of the month throughout the 2023-24 school year. Our honoree from November is Lady Bronco standout Brooke Kesey.

From the moment Brooke Kesey enrolled at Boyd, she started a path toward stardom. The best thing for the Lady Broncos is she only seems to be scratching the surface of her full potential.

Kesey exploded on the scene for Boyd in November, recording a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double in the team's first game against Franklin Classical. Her encore was just as impressive as she scored a career-best 20 points in a blowout win over Zion Christian.

Over her first six games, including four against TSSAA public schools where she had double figures in three games, Kesey is averaging 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. She's the team leader in both stats, along with field goal percentage, blocked shots and minutes played.

"Brooke has made an immediate impact for our team," said coach Tim Page. "She adds an element to our team that opposing teams have to game plan for - a dynamic post presence with good size and extremely good speed at the position."

While Boyd finished the month on a four-game losing streak to TSSAA schools, Kesey emerged as a bright spot in home losses to Watertown and Cannon County last week. She scored 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting against the two public schools.

Building Brooke into a beast for Boyd started over the summer. She enrolled in May after two years playing a bench role at WCMS and immediately started blossoming into a No. 1 option for the Lady Broncos. She was vital to Boyd winning over 15 games this summer in camps and showed she was ready for primetime at the Lebanon playday Nov. 3 when she scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win over Monterey.

It wasn't a shock to her coaches or teammates, all of which have seen firsthand the tenacity with which the freshman attacks every day in the gym.

"She has an incredible work ethic and has been in the gym all summer. Above her athletic abilities, she's an outstanding young lady and her attitude and drive gives her a very high ceiling. She's a pleasure to coach," said Page.

Local hoops fans can see Kesey and the Lady Broncos take on Smyrna at home Friday. Action at JK Stanley Gymnasium will tip-off at 6 p.m.
