Sixth-grader James Jackson scored two goals and eighth-grader Evan Reynolds added a third as the Warren County Middle School soccer team defeated Franklin North Middle School 3-1 Thursday night at Nunley Stadium.
The Pioneers won for the second straight time at home over a Central Tennessee Conference opponent as Thursday’s win followed a 2-0 victory over White County Tuesday.
Warren County got a great performance from Jackson. His goal 10 minutes into the first half tied the game at one, then he assisted on Reynolds’ goal to start the second. He finished the scoring with a late goal as the Pioneers won for the fourth time this season.
Franklin North started the scoring just seconds into the game. After the opening kickoff, Warren County was caught off guard by a quick counter attack by the road team. Franklin North got a long lead pass after the Pioneers moved deep into their opponent’s zone.
The counter strike took just a few seconds. Before Warren County could get back, the ball was already in the net.
Jackson made sure the lead didn’t last long for Franklin North. Playing on the left side, Jackson got an open opportunity for 20 yards out 10 minutes into the game.
Jackson unleashed a strong shot, freezing the keeper as the ball sailed by his head and into the back of the net.
The game entered halftime tied 1-1, but Warren County didn’t wait long in the second half to take the lead.
Jackson controlled the opening kickoff and immediately sent a pass through the heart of the Franklin North defense to Reynolds.
Reynolds broke free, getting a one-on-one opportunity with the Franklin North keeper. Reynolds won the battle, scoring with ease to make it 2-1.
Jackson added the insurance goal late in the game as Warren County held Franklin North scoreless for the final 58 minutes of the game.
The Pioneers will be back at home Friday to face Tullahoma. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
