In a photo finish, the Lady Tigers defeated Centertown’s Lady Warriors, 25-24, at Irving College on Thursday night in 7-8 grade basketball action.
Tied at 15 after three quarters, both teams went into the fourth quarter hoping for the win. That’s when Irving College got serious about working inside the paint and came away with a 1-point advantage and the ball game.
Despite the Lady Warriors doubling the percentages at the charity stripe with 8-of-12 shooting for 66 percent, Centertown couldn’t pull out a win. Irving College went 2-of-6 from the foul line, 33 percent, but made the inside shot count.
Both teams distributed the basketball well with 7 players scoring on each side.
Lady Warrior Jaden Smartt hit 7 points heading up Centertown’s offense, while Lady Tiger Mia Hobbs scored 7 points as well heading up Irving College’s scoring run.
Also hitting hoops for Centertown were Madison Johnson with 5, Katy Mae Cantrell and Addison Johnson both had 4 points, and Krista Chisam and Brianna Hart hit for 2 points each.
For Irving College, Kristen Turner hit for 6 points, Ella Bond and Elizabeth Nelson both had 4 points and Ashlyn Fults and Keley Rhea both scored 2 points.
Centertown traveled to Boyd last night while Irving College played host to Morrison. Results were not available at press time.
