Pigskin prognosticators in the community now have a place to prove they are the best.
This year, the Southern Standard Pigskin Panel will be open online to all football fans in the community. Players will be able to pick against the Standard’s panel of experts for a chance to win weekly prizes and a grand prize for the best overall picker.
Starting Friday, Aug. 22 and running through the Super Bowl, the Pigskin Panel contest will be updated online with a new list of 10 games each week. High school, college and NFL games will all be on the slate.
Registration is currently underway at the Southern Standard website. Contestants will have to click the ‘contest’ tab at the top of the page and follow registration instructions. Contestants must be at least 13 years of age. Links to the site will also be posted on the Standard’s sports Twitter page @SStandardSports and Facebook.
Previously, the Pigskin Panel was open to six Standard employees and one guest picker. Last season, editor James Clark claimed the championship.
This year, Clark will have to defend his title against the entire community. He’s ready for the challenge.
“I’ll take on all comers. The champ is here,” said Clark.
Other expert panel members will include publisher Pat Zechman, sports editor Jeffery Simmons, graphic designer Seth Wright, senior writer Duane Sherrill and circulation director Dale Stubblefield. Local business owners will also appear on the VIP picker’s panel.
Weekly prizes will be a $10 gift card and the grand prize will be a $100 award for the top overall picker.
