When the Fully Loaded bats caught fire Friday night, there was nothing Cowan’s Drywall could do.
Easton Denning, Kenyon Reno, Jerren Harris, Devan Grayson and Brayden McKinley had three hits each as Fully Loaded downed Cowan’s Drywall 13-2 in boys 7-8 machine-pitch league play at Hoover and Millraney Field.
Playing in its first regular season game, Fully Loaded caught fire in the first inning after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first. Ty Myers put Cowan’s Drywall ahead 1-0 by singling and scoring in the first, but it would be the last time his team would lead.
After two quick outs to start the bottom of the first, Denning sparked a four-run rally with a single. The hits kept coming afterward as Reno, Harris, Grayson and McKinley followed with a string of singles that put Fully Loaded up 4-1 after one inning.
The gap grew to 8-1 when Fully Loaded came up to bat for the second time. Luke Campbell’s single started the scoring while Grayson capped it with a two-run single to bring in Reno and Harris.
Brodie Cowans had an RBI single to score Dawson Sullivan in the top of the third for Cowan’s Drywall, but a comeback attempt wasn’t in the cards.
Brody Womack ignited a five-run third inning for Fully Loaded with a lead-off single, which was followed by six straight hits from the heart of the team’s order. By the time McKinley knocked in Grayson with his third hit, Fully Loaded had completed an 11-run win.
In Friday’s first game in the boys 7-8 league, Baler Melton’s three-run, inside-the-park home run was the difference as Buck Defender beat Tennessee Credit 6-4.
Melton’s round trip came in the bottom of the fourth with the game tied 3-3.
Melton brought around Levi Jones and Kyler Robinson, who each had three hits in the victory. Melton also had three hits, including a two-run single in the third inning that temporarily put the team ahead 3-0.
Tennessee Credit rallied to tie the game in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Jaxson Ward and Cash Livesay. Dykori Moore, J.P. Toney and Chase Ferrell also reached base in the frame.
The even score was only momentary though as Melton blasted his team in the lead with a big shot to center field.
Moore matched Melton with an inside-the-park home run on his own in the top of the fifth, but it was only a solo shot as his team fell by two.
Easton Archer West and Robert Young also finished with hits in Buck Defender’s victory.
