Eastside takes two from Boyd

The Eastside Bulldogs have shown in their first two games why they are the preseason favorites in the 7-8 grade Warren County elementary boys basketball league.
After dispatching Centertown 38-21 last week, the Bulldogs picked up another lopsided win on Monday night when the team traveled to Boyd and beat the Broncos 46-34.
Eastside held Boyd scoreless in the first quarter, then surged on offense in the second quarter before coasting to its second victory of the regular season.
Boyd couldn’t seem to find any offense in the first quarter as the Eastside defense, led by block specialist Tyler Beaty, turned back the Broncos on multiple opportunities.
The solid defense turned into easy offense as Beaty and Raleigh Woods scored six of the team’s eight first-quarter points on transition layups following Boyd turnovers.
Leading 8-0 after the first quarter, Dakota Nunley and Cito Garcia started to find their range as Eastside flexed its muscle on offense.
The Bulldogs scored 22 points in the second quarter, 10 coming from Nunley and eight from Garcia.
Nunley did most of his damage from the outside as he hit two 3-pointers and added four more points on jumpers. Garcia hit four shots as he was able to connect from mid-range and get to the basket for layups.
By halftime, Eastside had taken a 30-7 lead as Boyd got into the scoring column behind four points from Phillip Brock.
Boyd started to find its offense in the second half, but the Eastside lead didn’t seem to get any smaller.
London Scott and Joshua Argo scored four points apiece for Boyd in the third quarter, but Mitchell Stembridge countered with four points of his own to keep Eastside ahead 40-20 going into the fourth quarter.
Seven points from Aiden McVey and a 3-pointer from Casey Owens nearly brought Boyd within single digits by the end of the game, but two long-range shots by Dillon Young helped give Eastside a 12-point victory.
Nunley paced Eastside with 12 points. Garcia was next with eight, while Young and Stembridge added six points apiece. Beaty, Woods and Hunter Hawkins scored four each and Alex Yates rounded out the scoring with two.
Scott led Boyd with nine points. McVey finished with seven, followed by Brock and Argo with six, Owens with three and Noah Kuykendall with two.
In other elementary action, Holden Baker led the Morrison Eagles to a 31-25 victory over the Centertown Warriors.
Baker scored 19 points in the victory. Hunter Hall added five points, followed by Ethan Smith with four. Tommy Juarez scored two points for the Eagles and Colton Smith chipped in one.
McCall Turner led Centertown with 11 points. Skylar Thomas put in six, followed by Samuel Pack with four and Sam Deason and Brady Cantrell with two points each.
