Cruizers comes up big in the clutch to take title

David Nicholas heads to third base during Centertown Senior League softball action. Nicholas and Cruizers won the Senior League championship Thursday night with a 13-11 victory over Roscoe Brown.

Cruizers and Roscoe Brown took center stage Thursday night as they battled for the Senior League championship at Centertown Recreational Park.
The game was a back-and-forth contest until Cruizers scored four runs in its final at-bat to win the game, 13-11.
Cruizers was led at the plate by Adam Owen, who went 3-for-4 with two singles and a home run. Shaggy Storie added a 3-for-3 night with two triples and a double. Matt Savage also went 3-for-3 with three doubles and Sam Pack, Malachi Barrett and David Nicholas each added two hits apiece, including home runs.
In defeat, Roscoe Brown was led by Harley Alexander, who went 3-for-3 with a single, double and a home run, just missing the cycle by a triple. Raleigh Moore went 3-for-3 as well with three singles. Adam Cantrell, Nathan Lemons and Ian DeArmond added two hits apiece.
Roscoe Brown grabbed the early lead in the top of the first thanks to a three-run home run by Austin Jakes, 3-0.

Roscoe Brown scored two runs in the top of the second to widen its lead to four thanks to Lemons’ 2-RBI single, 5-1.
Cruizers finally had some life at the plate in the bottom of the third as the team scored three runs on a 2-RBI triple by Storie and an RBI double by Savage, to cut the Roscoe Brown lead to two, 6-4, after three.
After Roscoe Brown scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Cruizers answered back with five runs to take the one-run lead heading into the final inning of play, 9-8.
Roscoe Brown regained the lead in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs, 11-9, leaving Cruizers one last chance to send the game into extra-innings or take home the championship.
Cruizers scored four runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to timely hitting, to win the Senior League championship in dramatic come-from-behind fashion, 13-11.
