The WCHS soccer team celebrated senior night Tuesday at halftime while playing host to Coffee County. Although senior night went off without a hitch, the 2-0 lead held by the Red Raiders at the break increased to a 7-0 non-district loss for the Pioneers.
Honored during the intermission were J.D. Keele, Jakob Morin, Jesus Joaquin Salcedo San Martin, Zach Murray, Christian Arenas, Alex Ornate and Eddie Hernandez.
“This group of seniors are the most passionate boys I have had yet,” said WCHS Pioneer soccer head coach Orion Smith. “They have overcome many obstacles over the years and have truly grown into bright young men. I am proud to be their coach and look forward to hearing from their success in the future. Our season is still playing and even though we have had some setbacks, they are the perfect group to lead us to regionals. We are at the top of our game and these seniors are going to really shine.”
Warren County High School has seven senior soccer athletes graduating this year, and they all have big plans for the future.
Some of their favorite soccer moments include:
“Hurting people and getting numerous yellow cards,” – Zach Murray, who plans to study welding at TCAT of McMinnville.
“The time I got out of doing a homework assignment because I scored a penalty kick,” – Jesus Joaquin Salcedo San Martin, who plans on attending Motlow State for two years and then transferring to a university.
“When I scored from the kickoff against Oakland my sophomore year,” – Jakob Morin, who plans on attending Motlow State for two years before transferring to a four-year school.
“Kicking it with Cole Millard and the homies while rapping and singing La Bamba,” – Alex Onate, who plans on attending Motlow and taking over his father’s business, Fiesta Ranchera.
“Rap battles on the bus rides to games,” – Christian Arenas, who plans on relocating to Ohio for college.
“Last year at Blackman when I played the best game of my life. That’s just one memory of so many I have with these awesome guys,” – J.D. Keele, who plans on attending East Tennessee State.
“My junior year when a teammate washed his hands in a urinal of a porta-potty by accident,” – Eddie Hernandez, who plans on attending Motlow State and transferring to Tennessee Tech after graduating.
The Pioneers begin district tournament play at home on Tuesday, May 9, with their opponent TBD. Game time is 6 p.m.
