In Newtown softball action Wednesday night, Holder Realty took on Cleats and Cleavage in an exciting game. The game remained close throughout, but Cleats and Cleavage came through with the victory thanks to a six-run fourth inning to ultimately win the game, 22-18.Noah Fann led the way for Cleats and Cleavage at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run from the leadoff position. Jared Underwood came on in relief for Cleats and Cleavage to earn the victory on the mound.In a losing effort, Ronnie Talbert and Jordan Underhill led the way for Holder Realty with three hits apiece.In the top of the first, Holder Realty wasted no time in building an eight-run lead thanks to multiple shots to the outfield, scoring runs and Holder Realty had the comfortable lead heading into the bottom of the inning, 8-0.Cleats and Cleavage stormed back in the bottom of the inning as five runs were scored to trim the Holder Realty lead to three, 8-5, after one.After Holder Realty managed to score only two runs in the top of the second, Cleats and Cleavage gained the lead courtesy of several walked batters, scoring five runs to take the one-run lead, 10-9.Holder Realty’s bats caught fire again in the top of the third thanks to a 2-RBI single and a 3-RBI triple, putting them back in the lead, 15-10, heading into the bottom of the inning.The game continued to go back-and-forth in the bottom of the inning as Cleats and Cleavage regained the lead once again thanks to an two-run inside-the-park homerun by Fann, a 3-RBI double and a RBI single, 16-15, after three.Holder Realty scored three runs in the top of the fourth to go out in front, 18-16, heading into the bottom of the inning and Cleats and Cleavage needed to answer or suffer the loss.A 2-RBI double by Fann tied the game in the bottom of the inning and that was followed by four more runs coming across to score to give Cleats and Cleavage the victory in a closely contested game, 22-18.
