Cash 4 U wins slugfest

A 39-run, 24-hit game which lasted nearly two hours all came down to an at-bat by Brooke Murphy on Thursday night at Sam Martin Field.
In a showdown between Womack Printing and Cash 4 U, Murphy delivered a RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth to give Cash 4 U a 20-19 victory in the highest scoring game of the season in 11-13-year-old girls senior league.
Murphy’s hit was part of a five-run, seven-hit fifth inning for Cash 4 U to rally from a 19-15 deficit to defeat Womack Printing.
Erica Turner, Skylar Youngblood, Candace Moore, Abagail McKinley, Shea Kuykendall and Rhiannon Hoover all had hits in the fifth inning for Cash 4 U to erase the four-run lead for Womack Printing in the final inning.
Womack Printing thought it had done enough at the plate in the top of the fifth. Becca Partain, Shelbie McCormick and Lyric Armstrong each had RBI singles to give Womack a four-run advantage entering the bottom of the fifth.
Turner went 4-for-4 to help Cash 4 U improve to 4-2 on the season. Murphy’s game-winning triple was part of a two-hit performance. McKinley and Hannah Smith also had two hits. Hoover, Youngblood, Moore and Kuykendall added one hit apiece.
Moore picked up the win for Cash 4 U. She pitched all five innings and had three strikeouts.
Partain, McCormick and Armstrong led Womack with two hits each. Kansas Redmon, Bethany Porter, Sara Panter and Paige Merriman had one hit apiece. Redmon took the loss for Womack Printing, which fell to 1-4.
In the night’s second game, Brittany Myers put Kirby Real Estate on her back to lead her team to the top of the senior league standings.
Myers struck out 16 batters to help Kirby Real Estate defeat McMinnville Aluminum and Vinyl Supplies 7-2.
In a battle of the top two teams in the league, Kirby’s got its revenge by watching Myers and Liza Harvey play pitch and catch for most of the game.
Myers struck out the first 12 batters for the MAVS, with the only action in the infield coming when Harvey dropped a strike three call and had to throw to first for an out.
Though Myers was cruising in the circle for Kirby’s, it wasn’t until the top of the fourth when the team found its offensive rhythm.
Myers’ began the fourth with a single, which was followed up by a single from Harvey. Myers and Harvey would both come around on a double by Alex Locke to break a scoreless tie.
Myers only slip up in the circle came in the bottom of the fifth. The MAVS rallied to tie the game at two when Madison Taylor scored on a ground ball by Larissa Lopez. Taylor had knocked in Syndey Scott with a single to begin the scoring.
Kirby’s didn’t let the game stay tied for long. Myers hit a double to score Maddi Taylor in the top of the sixth. After a walk to Harvey, Rylee Hilliard hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run to all but end the game. Jerica Hayward drove in Locke with a double to give Kirby’s a five-run lead entering the bottom of the sixth.
After a leadoff single by Erin Hollis, Myers retired the next three batters in order to pick up her fourth win of the season. Myers’ 16 strikeouts were a league-high this season and helped Kirby’s improve to a league-leading 4-1.
Hollis took the loss for the MAVS, who fell to 4-2. Hollis pitched all six innings, giving up seven runs on 10 hits while striking out nine.
