There is never a dull moment on the Pete Holt Field and if you have not seen the girls 7-8 play, it is interesting to say the least. All of these girls put in every ounce of effort and Carbide CrossFit is coached by WCMS softball coach Rodney Whiles and he gets everything he can possibly get out of his 7-8 year old team.
Tennessee Warehouse showed up to play and gave Carbide CrossFit a run for its money through the first two innings, but was blanked in its final two at-bats. Carbide CrossFit held on and defeated Tennessee Warehouse, 16-8.
After starting the top of the first with two quick outs, Christa Cowan, Addison Smith, and Lilly Gillespie all reached base with singles. Off-target throws here and there scored Cowan and Smith for an early 2-0 lead. Ashlynn Hillis knocked around Gilliespie with a single for a 3-0 lead. The final out came on a strikeout to end the inning for Tennessee Warehouse.
In the bottom of the first, Carbide CrossFit started its turn at the plate with four consecutive singles and runs were going up on the scoreboard. Makayla Cagle, Maggie Whiles, Lily Rains, and Tinzlee Tanner all reached on their first attempt from the plate. Kia Ann King also pushed the runners around the bases with a base hit, and when the inning had come to an end Carbide CrossFit had claimed the lead 5-3.
Celle Gudat led off the top of the second with a single followed by three more singles by Addy Belle Cocke, Cowan, and Smith. The following batters hit ground balls into outs but not before they pushed the runners around the bases.
And just before the final out went in to the book, Tennessee Warehouse added four more runs to its total and reclaimed the lead 7-5.
Carbide CrossFit would not be denied and continued to push the tempo. Cagle and Whiles had back-to-back singles before the first out of the inning. Tanner and King had another round of hits for Carbide CrossFit. Annabell Cowell singled to move the runners around the bases and at the end of the inning Carbide CrossFit jumped back into the lead 9-7.
Tennessee Warehouse hit a huge bump in the road in the top of the third. For the first time in the game the side went three up, three down and the score remained 9-7.
Carbide CrossFit carried its momentum into the bottom of the third. Cagle, Whiles, Rains, and Tanner all had hits and extra bases in the third. After the first out of the inning, Colwell and Jones knocked their teammates around the bases and runs crossed the plate for the third straight inning. Carbide CrossFit took a 13-7 lead into the fourth.
After Tennessee Warehouse went down in order the previous inning, they were not able to get back into a rhythm on offense. Out of the five batters, Cocke and Smith each had base hits in the Tennessee Warehouse final at bat.
Carbide CrossFit was able to add to its run total after back-to-back outs to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Rains, Tanner, and King all made the trip around the infield. Colwell singled for Carbide CrossFit just before the final out was made.
