Bronco comeback falls short

Boyd’s Christian Rogers was the top scorer for Boyd in Tuesday night’s game against West Academy despite being double-teamed.

The Boyd Broncos couldn’t stop the Thunderbirds on Tuesday night despite having an incredible comeback.

Boyd Christian played West Academy in a very inconsistent high school basketball game.

The Broncos rallied from an 18-point deficit, but fell just short in a 62-55 home loss to West Academy.

Christian Rogers was the top scorer for Boyd with 17 points. Sam Page added 13.

The Broncos (5-5) dug themselves an early hole when they fell behind by 10 points at the end of the first quarter. West snatched a quick lead and seemed to catch Boyd off-guard.

The second quarter was erratic with Boyd struggling to catch up. Intensity showed when West Academy’s Andrew Halsey received a technical foul for talking back to a referee.

This gave Boyd foul shots, but it also gave West energy as the Thunderbirds extended their margin and were up 34-21 at half.

Sam Page tried to spearhead a Boyd second-half rally when he found the range on his jumper and scored 8 points. However, the rest of the Broncos only mustered four points during the quarter and West started to gel, extending its lead to 51-33 with one quarter to play.

Finally, Boyd put it all together in the fourth quarter. The Broncos gained the advantage with almost everyone on the team scoring to help Boyd close the gap tremendously.

Despite playing very well under pressure down the stretch, Boyd never could get close enough to threaten to take the lead. West Academy won, but not without a strong effort from the Broncos, who fought tirelessly even when very far behind.
