All Boyd needed to get back on a hot streak was to see a TSIAA rival. When it comes to conference games, the Lady Broncos still know how to dominate.
Boyd smashed Franklin Classical 59-11 Thursday, using a 23-0 run in the third quarter to move to 4-0 this season in TSIAA matchups. The Lady Broncos have now won 30 of their last 32 TSIAA regular-season games.
Sophomore Macie Bush had a breakout game off the bench, leading the team with 13 points, including hitting three triples. Freshman Brooke Kesey and senior Paige Sweeten added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
"We didn't play our best half at the start, but the defense really set the tone after halftime," said coach Tim Page. "Our girls always play well together, but we took it to a new level in that second half. It's the best defense I think we've played all year - our girls were on a mission to not let them shoot or score."
Boyd (6-6) outscored Franklin Classical 38-4 after the break, using a suffocating defense to force 36 turnovers. On the other side, the Lady Broncos only had five giveaways and dished out 19 assists, led by Sweeten's three dimes.
The Lady Broncos did get some bad news Friday when it was discovered Sweeten had broken a bone in her hand, an injury that could hold her out for a month. "Paige is so tough and puts her body on the line every time she steps on the court. We're hoping for a speedy recovery and know she'll come back strong as ever," said Page.
Boyd is back in action Tuesday at Cannon County (6 p.m. tip-off).
