Boyd Christian High School’s Broncos wanted to make double sure it wasn’t going to be them riding off into the sunset, as they defeated the visiting Covenant Lions, 67-38, to the delight of the home crowd.
“We executed well for three quarters,” said Boyd head coach Lucas Majors. “As a team, we have to continue working to close out games with the same energy we have in the first eight minutes. Overall I was happy with our effort and glad we had a successful homecoming night.”
Considering the Bronco trio of Blaine Wilson, Trey Cantrell and Tyler Beaty scored 51 points between them, it was apparent Boyd (9-2, 1-1) had made its point, working both inside the paint and outside the arc, taking advantage of numerous scoring opportunities. Wilson and Cantrell both scored 15 points apiece. Included in Wilson’s tally were three treys he converted.
Bronco Jayden Reno also broke double digits, adding icing on the homecoming cake, with 11 total game points.
Covenant’s playmaker was Taylor Madewell with 10 points, followed closely by Will Cheek and Samual Wright each with 8 points. Rounding out Covenant’s point makers were Jackson Smith and Grant Peterson with 4 points each and Caleb Brown and Nick Simmons had 2 points apiece.
Helping at homecoming for Boyd’s total tally were Joelah Solomon with 3 points and Dallas Greene who shot for 2 points.
The Broncos were on the road Thursday at Holloway. Results were not available at press time. They play Friday night in Bell Buckle in the Webb Classic.
