The girls 7-8 year old league never disappoints and it is wide open from start to finish. These little ladies were giving it all they had during the time allowed. Monday evening was no different and Ben Lomand Connect gave Holton Industries more than it could handle during a 15-5 win.
Ben Lomand Connect jumped out to an early lead and never let up. The Ben Lomand Connect bats never really had a chance to cool off and they posted runs in each of the four innings. Holton Industries got off to a late start and its offense got going in the third inning but it was too little, too late.
Halle Lowe started the top of the first off for Ben Lomand Connect with a single. A ground ball followed for out one of the inning. But Ben Lomand Connect fired right back with another ground ball for a base hit. After a ground ball was recorded for out two, Ben Lomand Connect cranked out back-to-back hits by Abigail Fann and Riley Stafford and by the time the final out came Ben Lomand Connect led 3-0 halfway through the first inning.
Holton Industries got off to a rough start in the bottom of the first with a lead-off strikeout. Lily Anne Smith drove a line-drive shot through the defense for a single, but a ground ball was thrown to first for out number two. Isabella Pennington, Kiara Sharpe, and Loren Crenshaw all singled for Holton Industries but Smith was caught at home for the final out of the inning and Holton Industries came up just short in its first trip to the plate.
Ben Lomand Connect really opened things up in the top of the second. Lowe and Kyren Damon each singled to start the offensive assault. Bella Stiles, Fann, and Stafford all kept the base runners on the move. When Ben Lomand Connect had reached its run limit, the lead was 8-0.
Holton Industries was not going to roll over and came out firing. Annabelle Reintz was the first to reach base after the lead-off batter went down for out one. Kaelyn Adams also reached first base and quickly scooted around to third base and Reintz scored for Holton Industries and Ben Lomand Connect led 8-1.
Elle Baine singled but was caught before she could reach third base for the second out of the inning. Lily Anne Smith reached on a single for the second time in the game but the following batter went for out number three and the momentum was stopped once again just as it was about to begin.
In the top of the third, Ben Lomand Connect started with back-to-back singles. Fann then stepped up to the plate and smashed a double through the defense and two more runs crossed the plate for a 10-1 Ben Lomand Connect lead. Kiersten Smith singled to advance Fann around for an 11-1 lead. Lowe reached base for the third time and she was knocked around by a ground ball by Damon which went for out two and when it was all said and done Ben Lomand Connect led 13-1.
Holton Industries finally started firing on offense in the bottom of the third.
Pennington started the inning off with a huge blast through the defense for a double. Crenshaw and Loren Sharpe each singled for Holton Industries and runs started to cross the plate for Holton Industries. Reintz reached base just before the second and third outs came and at the end of three, Ben Lomand Connect led 13-5.
In the fourth, Ben Lomand Connect continued but had a little trouble keeping up the pace they held in previous innings. Fann and Stafford reached base after the initial lead-off batter went down swinging for the first out. Smith and Lowe grounded out but not before two more runs crossed for a 15-5 Ben Lomand Connect lead.
Holton Industries was worn down but they continued to try and play catch up. Pennington was the only batter out of the last four batters to reach base for Holton Industries and Ben Lomand Connect went on to win by a final score of 15-5.
