The final day to ensure a spot in one of the McMinnville Youth Baseball and Softball leagues will be tomorrow.
Sign-ups will end tomorrow at McMinnville Civic Center as league registration has gone on throughout February. The leagues, which are open to boys ages 4-12 and girls ages 4-13, will hold sign-ups from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The cost to sign up is $38 for 4-year-old co-ed T-Ball and $50 for all other leagues.
The leagues will once again be directed by Dell Watson, who held the job last season. All leagues will run the same and leagues will be sending teams to the state tournaments under the Cal Ripken Association. Last season, leagues held open tryouts for the state tournament teams.
Last year, nearly 1,000 local kids participated in 10 leagues. Practices will begin after league drafts, which are set for the middle of March. Games will start April 29 and leagues hope to be completed by July 4.
Currently with a lack of numbers in the senior boys and girls leagues, the starting dates for those leagues could be pushed back to accommodate the ending of the current school baseball and softball seasons.
For more information about the leagues or sign-ups, contact Watson at 473-1212.
Also, the McMinnville Youth Baseball and Softball leagues are currently taking applications for umpires and score keepers. Interviews are scheduled to start in March. Applications are available at City Hall.
Boys ages 13-15 who would like to sign up for Babe Ruth baseball can do so as well tomorrow. Cost for Babe Ruth baseball is $60. For more information about Babe Ruth baseball, contact Jeff McGee at 205-6972.
