Band looks to drum up money for new uniforms
WCHS-BandWEB
The Warren County High School marching band is currently trying to raise over $66,000 for new uniforms for fall 2018. The uniforms shown above have been in use for 10-17 years. The proposed new uniforms are shown in the inset photo.

Fans can’t attend a football game without noticing the need for specialized equipment. From shoulder pads, helmets, jerseys and cleats, the entire wardrobe is definitive and necessary.
During halftime, fans are also presented with specialized entertainment in the form of a marching band. Not as much thought is probably given to their uniforms as there isn’t often a collision among the band members.
Nonetheless, the band is wearing a definitive and necessary uniform, costing approximately $440 per member. They’re definitive in that they represent the colors and support of Warren County sports and necessary as most would find it unappealing at best to watch a marching band with a coat of many colors.
One thing which stands out, literally, is the band’s uniform pants which were purchased in 1999 and jackets in 2005. There are also the shako (a cylindrical or conical military hat with a brim and a plume or pom-pom), and gauntlets. This would have made some of the garments worn by band members when they performed at halftime at Dudley Field when the Titans/Oilers first came to town.
Besides playing during numerous football games they play competitively and, recently, at halftime at the University of the South for their homecoming game. Every time they appear, they represent Warren County so it’s time to update the uniform.
Now the band organizers and booster club are faced with the challenge to raise $66,200 to outfit the entire band and have enough uniforms for new members.
“The uniforms are in bad shape and showing wear after 10-17 years of use,” said band booster treasurer Charlene Jones. “We currently do not have enough uniforms for all of the members of the band.  We are attempting to have the funds to purchase new uniforms by the fall of 2018.  We are hoping to raise some of the money with donations from the community.  Most of our money from football and basketball concessions goes toward repairing/purchasing instruments, music, and other necessities.”
The band will be performing for the Wonderland of Trees at Three Star Mall, Thursday at 6 p.m. and be in the Christmas Parade Dec. 3. Anyone interested in finding out more can download the PDFs with this story or email warrencountybandboosters@gmail.com.
