Things to consider about school rules

TO THE EDITOR:
Concerning what our schools should be, cellphones are not needed for education. But consider schools taking cellphones and refusing to give them back. Is this really legal?
If you or I took a person's phone, we would be arrested and stand before a judge. Just because a school or a Board of Education makes a school rule does not make the rule legal and does not put the school system beyond the rule of law.
If we say paddling students is not a bad idea, it could result in a person being prosecuted. In today's society, parents are afraid to spank their own child due to what could happen if a complaint was filed. We should consider why spanking became an issue with some parents beating a child and even students being injured by a spanking at school.
When a school system teaches students what to know in order to pass a test, is it a plus or minus? These issues are not the only ones we should consider.
We see schools placing an age limit on who a student can invite to a prom and the reasoning for the school is it's a school function, but to attend a ticket is purchased by the student and the prom is not on school property. There's also a dress code a school can use in a capricious manner.

Deportation question

TO THE EDITOR:
Wait! The feds will deport the convicted criminals? Why doesn't Warren County remand them to the feds when they've been convicted?
How much will it cost Warren County taxpayers to imprison these guys for the better part of a year? I'm sure there must be a valid reason to spend taxpayer money on criminals the feds will deport anyway, right?
