William Walter Smith Jr., 62, of McMinnville died Feb. 7 at St. Thomas of Rutherford Critical Care Center after an extended illness.
He was born in Maine on Feb. 18, 1951. He is survived by four brothers Howard Smith, Bob Smith, Bruce Harrison and Dale Harrison, and one sister; Sue Smith, all from Maine.
He served our country for 17 years in the U.S. Marines. He worked at Food Lion of Smithville and Cee Bee of McMinnville. He was with the Food Lion Company for 46 years. He worshipped at Martin Chapel Outreach.
He was married to Vickie Cherie Smith of McMinnville. They would have been married 14 years on Feb. 14, 2014. He was a good husband and a good friend. Two of his closest friends were Carl Vetter and Eveyin Pyles. He loved to spend as much time as he could with his church family and people from everywhere.
He also leaves in mourning a sister and brother-in law, Darlene and Mark Brown; brother and sister in-law, Jimmy and Vivian Cox; stepchildren, Christopher Taylor of Westmoreland, Shean Taylor of Smyrna, Wendy Whitehead of Westmoreland, and Jimmie Taylor of Nashville, and Bubba Taylor of Ash City and numerous friends.
Memorial service arrangements will be made by pastors Willie Cameron and CarolAnn Richardson. Service to be held on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. at Martin Chapel Outreach, 1044 Starlight Road in McMinnville. For any additional information, please call 931-808-4167.
