William Van Womack, 86, died Sept. 20 at Gulfside Center Hospice in Zephyrhills, Fla.An assistant postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Church of Christ at Zephyrhills, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was involved in the Pacific Theater as a frogman ending his tour of duty in Operation Magic Carpet with the removal of troops from Japan and the Pacific Islands. He worked 33 years with the Postal Service as an assistant postmaster in Zephyrhills and he served as an elder with the Church of Christ in Plant City, Fla., for 24 years and attended the Zephyrhills church for his last 13 years.The son of the late Robert Bryan and Lelia Kathleen Romine Womack; he was also preceded in death by first wife Lois Fuston Womack, brothers Robert Bryan Womack Jr., and Joseph Paul Womack.He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Womack; sons, Gary V. Womack of Dade City, Fla., and Mark A. Womack of Taylorsville, N.C.; stepson, Jeff Bender of Rutland, Vt.; stepdaughter, Julie Ciociola of Zephyrhills; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Fuston Cemetery with Gary Womack officiating.
