William Stanley Bill Jones, 82

William Stanley “Bill” Jones, 82, was born June 23, 1935 in Summerville, Ga., to William Issac and Mildred Ashworth Jones and departed from this life on Sept. 28 at his home in Spencer.
Bill lived a very active life. He attended Chattanooga State Community College and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga while living in East Ridge and was a member of the Chattanooga area Relic Club. He retired from both the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant as a superintendent and from IBEW Chattanooga. Bill became interested in the Trail of Tears and documented many routes, even taking former Gov. Bredesen’s wife on a tour in Van Buren County. He served on the Election Commission, as County Historian, American Legion Post 207, and many other groups and organizations in Van Buren County. He served his country in the 82nd Airborne division of the U.S. Army. Bill’s love for the church came first in his life; he got up early every morning to do his Bible study. He was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.
Bill is survived by wife, Agnes Curtis Jones; son James Leland Jones; granddaughters Mariah, Janessa, and Jaclyn; grandsons Zack, Zared (Tonya) and Zenon Chaves, seven great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and one step-great-grandson, sister Barbara Jean Beatty and her caregiver, Karen Duggans, brother-in-law James (Linda) Curtis, and nieces Lisa and Christy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Teresa Jones.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Bethlehem Church of Christ. Larry Bouldin and Michael Cope will officiate. Interment will follow at Shockley Cemetery. Military grave rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. The Jones family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Church of Christ, 5544 Old State Hwy. 111, Spencer  38585. Online condolences may be made at
