Wilbur Francis “Bill” Novak, 89, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Jefferson City Manor.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1923 in St. Louis, the son of the late Nicholas and Grace Jane (Wistabier) Novak. He was united in marriage in 1948 in St. Louis to Rosemary Ann Bauer, who survives. He served our country in the United States Air Force during World War II and worked as a mechanical engineer for Century Electric in St. Louis and McMinnville. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, and rebuilding cars and boats. In younger years, he built and raced stock cars. Other survivors include sister, Janet Wujek of San Diego, Calif.; brother-in-law, Robert (Mary Jane Nentwig) Bauer of Holts Summit; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Francene Mary Ann Novak; and sister, Jean Ann Shone.
A mass of Christian burial was held Nov. 16 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. David D. Cox officiating. Burial followed at Garden of Memory Cemetery in McMinnville. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 2413 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, Mo. 65109; or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, Mo. 65201.

Martha Raye Watson, 71

McMinnville resident and Coffee County native Martha Raye Watson, age 71, was born Jan. 17, 1954 and died April 2, 2025 at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro following an extended illness.

A retired caregiver and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Ethel St. John Crouch. Mrs. Watson was married December 29, 1970 to Fred B. Watson, Jr. who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Donna McCormick, Richard Crouch and Ruth Rogers.

She is survived by sons, Fred B. Watson, III and David A. Watson (Sydney Brown) both of McMinnville; daughter, Tonia L. (Carlos) Copley of McMinnville; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sister, Ann McCormick of the Smartt Station community and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Warren County with Wayne Cantrell to officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at High’s.
