Velma Turner Bynum

Velma Turner Bynum died April 9 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
She was a resident of McMinnville for 91 years before moving to Oak Ridge in 2005. A beloved mother and grandmother, she leaves behind her daughter, Pat Thompson and son-in-law, Felbert Thompson, of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Shelley Jones and Sydney Assaf, their spouses and four great-grandchildren; two nieces, Donna King of McMinnville and Leola Phifer of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a nephew, Joel Durham, of Fairport, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by Fred Bynum, her spouse of 55 years, her brother, Irvin Turner and her sister, Clara Hennessee, all of McMinnville.
She had been an accomplished seamstress and an avid fisher, flower gardener and traveler. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in McMinnville before moving to Oak Ridge and joining Central Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held April 30 at 7 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. Receiving friends will start at 5 p.m.
