Sherry Alford Carter, 51, local artist and nurse of Shelbyville and a Coffee County native, died from cancer Thursday, May 2, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was a nurse for more than 25 years. Additionally, she taught china painting and other classes as a volunteer at the Shelbyville-Bedford County Senior Citizens Center as well as selling her art in shops in Bell Buckle and Wartrace.
