Robert Vernon Walker Sr., 88, of Estill Springs, Tenn., departed this life Saturday, Oct. 5, at Southern Manor Assisted Living Center, Winchester following a brief illness.  

He was born in McMinnville to the late George Bryan Walker and Mamie Starkey Walker on June 4, 1931. Mr. Walker was a member of Winchester First United Methodist Church and last attended Estill Springs United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving approximately 22 years for his country. He was then employed for many years with the U.S. Postal Service in McMinnville. Mr. Walker enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He will be remembered by all that knew him as a Christian man and a kind and loving gentleman. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mayme Truslow Walker, and brother, William “Bill” Walker. He is survived by his sons Bob Walker Jr. of Estill Springs, Rusty Walker and wife, Myra of Pulaski, Tenn., sisters Geneva Lad of Garden City, Mich., Frances Orr of LaVergne, Joann Hutsko of Livonia, Mich., and Peggy Malone of McMinnville, brother-in-law Billy Truslow of Fredericksburg, Va., and three grandchildren William Ross Walker of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Stephanie Elaine Walker of Cookeville, and Rachel Lynn Walker of Pulaski. 

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services with military honors bestowed. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Estill Springs First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 113, Estill Springs, TN  37330.
