Robert Lynn Crosslin, 85, died Sunday, Aug. 3.
Born in White County on May 5, 1929, he was the son of the late R.L. and Louverna Bumbalough Crosslin. He married Joyce Maxine Hudgens on July 15, 1950.
He was a member of Central Church of Christ. He was a longtime Shriner of the Masonic Lodge. He became a member of the White County Election Commission on April 3, 1963, serving for 51 years. He was the “voice of the elections,” giving the results on WSMT Radio. He was believed to be the oldest member of a county election commission in the entire state. During his lifetime, Robert led a colorful and varied life, dabbling in everything including racing stock cars, auctioneering, piloting, selling everything from vacuum cleaners to Mack trucks and later in life obtaining his broker’s license to sell real estate.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Thelma Hudgens; his wife; his grandson, James Ryan Dunham; his son-in-law Jack Stein; and his brother, Thomas Eugene Crosslin Sr.
Mr. Crosslin is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Crosslin Dunham and James R. Dunham of McMinnville; daughter, Becky Crosslin Stein of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and grandson, Scott Dunham of Nashville. Visitation will be at Central Church of Christ in Sparta Wednesday at 2 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer foundation, White County Public Library, McMinnville First United Methodist Church, or Sparta Central Church of Christ.
