Oscar “Gene” Carr, 63, of Hayti, S.D., passed away Thursday, March 15, at Sanford Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was born Oct. 10, 1954 to the late Oscar and Mary Hillis Carr.

He was married on July 6, 1979 to Beatrice Liebnow Carr of Hayti, S.D. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Matt and Sara Carr of South Dakota, Ricky Carr of Morrison, and Anthony and Danielle Carr of Smithville; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steve Wright of Smithville; five siblings and their spouses, Bobby and Pat Carr of Alabama, Margaret and Jim Self, Frank and Margaret Carr, and Chuby and Darlene Carr, all of Tennessee, and Larry Carr of MS; and several grandchildren.

Gene attended McMinnville Central High and graduated in 1972. After graduation, he worked for EMJ Construction Corporation. He loved to hunt and fish, and was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed camping.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 20, at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown, S.D. with Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz officiating. Online condolences may be made at highfuneralhome.com.
