Mattie Lorene Russell, 74, of Spencer passed from this life Monday, Sept. 9, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mattie was born Sunday, July 22, 1945 in Spencer, the daughter of the late Joe Shockley and the late Dema Martin Shockley.

Mattie is survived by her son Tim Russell and wife Teresa, daughter Kathy Ferguson and husband David, four grandchildren Matthew and Sandra Russell, Kevin and Kendra Russell, Tiffanie Ferguson, and Jeffrey and Hilary Ferguson, nine great-grandchildren Morgan, Aiden, Madelyn, Annabelle, Mary Beth, Layden, Fallon, Haisley, and Glavine, sister Nellie Bickford, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by husband Albert Russell, five brothers James, Ray, Thomas, Johnny, and Floyd Shockley, three sisters Emma Lou Mealer, Mammie Ruth “Boots” Rice, Janice Swindell.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Spencer Funeral Home with Raymond McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Spencer Town Cemetery in Spencer. The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and again Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spencer Funeral Home, 16000 Hwy 111 N., Spencer.
