John Clark Barrett, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather died peacefully on Sunday, July 16.
He was born June 6, 1935 in Charleston, W.Va., to Clark and Edna Barrett.
He was a graduate of Lamar University obtaining his degree in chemical engineering.  On June 8, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Claudda Etelka McKinney, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They were blessed with a beautiful family of five children. John was a faithful lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his life giving Christlike service to his family and countless others. John was a Renaissance man; one of the most intelligent men we have ever known, a designer and builder of things from his homes to beautiful furniture,  a gentleman farmer on his beloved 50 acres, and all while enjoying his classical music.  After retiring from the DuPont Company in Chattanooga, John and Claudda enjoyed traveling all over, spending time with their family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Claudda M. Barrett, his parents, his sister, Margaret B. Spradling, and his brother Eugene F. Barrett. He is survived by son Ken, and four daughters Laura (Darrell) Decker, Billye (Tim) Hitchcock, Ruth (John) Layne, and Christina (Chris) Hilliard Miller, 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Hamilton County Memorial Park. Sincere thanks to the Angels at Stoney Brooke Assisted Living, Symbii Hospice, and our sister, Ruth Layne, for her loving care of our parents over the years.
