Joe Lee McPeak, 87, a longtime resident of Rock Island, was born Feb. 10, 1932 in White County, and passed away March 12 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following a two-year illness.
He was a member of the Church of Christ at East End and son of the late Joe Eans and Martha Stacey Cole McPeak. Mr. McPeak, a 25-year career United States Army veteran, served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired from service in 1975. He was a retired Church of Christ minister, serving in Germany and White and Warren counties, and a retired educator with the Coffee County School System. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Dora Mae Wigington McPeak; two brothers, John Wallace and Herod McPeak; and two sisters, Lavona Jones and Della Mae Jones.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Lee McPeak of McMinnville, Kerry Oakley and Sharon McPeak of Bone Cave, Joseph Brent and Shirley McPeak of Rock Island; daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa Lavina and Terry Panter of McMinnville; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at High’s Chapel with Kevin Key and Garland Robinson to officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery on Hwy. 30. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
