McMinnville resident and Cannon County native James William Underwood, 89, was born March 26, 1929 and died April 10 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville following a brief illness.

A farmer, retired from Powermatic, a United States Army veteran of Korea, and a member of the Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Rufus and Lena Pennington Underwood.

He was married to Juanita Simpson Underwood of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Jeffrey H. Underwood, Darrell W. Underwood and Dianne Mingle, all of McMinnville; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at High’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
