McMinnville resident and Warren County native James Lewis “J.L.” Hillis, 80, was born April 17, 1934 and died Oct. 26 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness.
Retired from Burroughs-Ross-Colville, a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, a member of VFW and American Legion, and of the Christian faith, he was the son of the late James Lee and Hazel Dodson Hillis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Charles Hillis; and two sisters, Lucille Hillis and Joyce Hillis.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Sherie Hillis of Ferndale, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Robert Dinwiddie of Morrison; two brothers and sister-in-law, Fred and Kaye Hillis of McMinnville, and Jot Hillis of McMinnville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in High’s Chapel with Ray Weddington officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery on Highway 30. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Wednesday at High’s. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project c/o High’s.
