Hugh Victor Cole, 86, a McMinnville resident and Athens native, died Sept. 17 at his residence following an illness of 16 months.
He was the owner and operator of Cole’s Nursery, a U.S. Navy veteran of Korea, member of the Church of Christ at Morrison and son of the late Walter Monroe and Ruby Spencer Maynard Cole.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Henry “Ewin” and David Edward Cole and sisters, Betty Victoria Cole and Billie Joe Barrett.
Mr. Cole is survived by children and spouses, Rhonda and Robbie Mason, Victor and Cynthia Cole, Kim and Sam Merriman of McMinnville and Terry and Steve Stubblefield of Morrison; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one on the way; brother Shirley Cole of Spring Hill; sister Johnny Clendenon of Alabama, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Grange Hall Church of Christ with Roger Comstock to officiate. Interment will follow at Grange Hall Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion 173. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at High’s.
