George M. Stewart, 89, of McMinnville died April 5 at Raintree Manor after an extended illness.He was born in Smithville on April 30, 1923, a son of the late Pauline (Cantrell) and Hobert J. Stewart.He was a factory worker, was with Caney Fork for 30 years and was a member of Gath Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 3rd Class in World War II.He is survived by son, Ronald E., and wife Sukie Stewart of McMinnville; sister Mattie Sue Vaughn of Smithville; brother Sidney, and wife Sophie (Roller) Stewart of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Inez (Cope) Stewart of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Monica (Stewart) Lindquist and husband Jeff, Hobie J. Stewart and wife Heather, Gwen Stewart, Natalie Stewart, Drew Stewart; six great-grandchildren, Dustin Lee , Bobby Lee, Hagen Stewart, Kalia Stewart, Collin Lindquist, Parker Lindquist, and four great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, Monteen (Clark) Stewart; second wife, Elsie (Byars) Stewart; parents, Hobert and Pauline (Cantrell) Stewart; one son, Donald M. Stewart; three sisters, Katie Tomlin, Betty Ruth Maxwell, Florence Keaton; and one brother, Paul Stewart.Funeral service will be held at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rick Stewart officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
