Elwood Horace “Woody” Miller Jr., 82, of Rock Island died Friday, Oct. 11 at NHC Healthcare in McMinnville.
Born in Mount Holly, N.J., he was a resident of New Egypt, N.J., and Whiting, N.J., before moving to Tennessee seven years ago.
Woody served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and he was a retired chemist with Stauffer Chemical in Yardville, N.J., and also Hooker Chemical. He also operated Pyramid Stained Glass Studio in New Egypt, N.J., for 15 years. He was a past member of the Plumsted Township Board of Education, a past commander of the American Legion Post 455 and the VFW Post, both in New Egypt, N.J., a past vice commander and service officer of Ocean County American Legion, a member of New Egypt Lions Club, and a former troop leader for the New Egypt Boy Scouts.
He was preceded in death by parents, Elwood and Margaret Moore Miller; and son, Eddie Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Westermann Miller of Rock Island; two daughters, Sherry Sherman and husband Ken of Medina, Ohio, and Donna Evans of Rittman, Ohio; stepson, Ted Preston and wife Shannon of Campaign; stepdaughter, Peggy Allen and husband Donny of McMinnville; four brothers, Lloyd Miller of Bensalem, Pa., Jack Miller and wife Gloria of Lumberton, N.J., Richard Miller and wife Kahlim of Wilmington, N.C., and Ralph Miller of Vincentown, N.J.; and many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt, N.J., with burial to follow at Jacobstown Cemetery in Jacobstown, N.J. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Tilghman Funeral Home.
