Ellen Cantrell Cogley passed away on April 4, 2024. She was born in McMinnville to the late John Horry Cantrell and Martha Earthman Cantrell. Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Henry Weinhold Cogley in 2006 and brother, John Horry Cantrell, Jr. (Linda) in 2022. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Cogley Humphrey (Matthew); two grandsons, Ethan Henry Humphrey and Taylor Matthew Humphrey and brother, Andrew Webber Cantrell (Patty), of McMinnville. She is also survived by four nieces and their families.
Ellen received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. At UT, she was vice-president of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, a member of Panhellenic Council and representative to the Student Government Association.
After graduation, Ellen moved to Arcadia, Fla. where she taught at Desoto County High School before becoming employed by Florida Power and Light Co. She worked for FPL for 32 years, filling a number of positions including supervision of several district departments. Her last position was as a customer service training specialist. She was also a member of the company speakers bureau for many years.
Community activities included membership in Entry Nous where she served on the advisory board and the Bradenton/Sarasota Area Zeta Tau Alpha Alumnae Chapter which she served as president. Ellen was a long-time member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Bradenton, where she served in many capacities.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service. She preferred to move on quietly.
