Brandon Wayne Hillis, 34, a Rock Island resident and Rutherford County native, was born Jan. 26, 1987 and died Aug. 16 following an extended illness.

He was a partner with his family-owned business, Hillis Hwy. 30 Market, a member of Pleasant Cove Church of Christ, and the son of Gary and Lisa Hillis of Rock Island.

Brandon was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Franklin Dee Boren, paternal grandfather Fred Wayne Hillis, aunt, Tresa “T.T.” Green, and step-grandmother Jearline “Gigi” Smart.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by brother Samuel Hillis of Shelbyville, maternal grandparents, Donald and Linda Faye Gann of McMinnville, paternal grandmother Sharon Kaye Hillis of Rock Island, aunts and uncles, Debbie Inman of Paris, TN, Diana (Glynn) Glover of McMinnville, Richard Boren of Rock Island, Betty Bouldin of McMinnville, and Lesa Smith of Rock Island, special little friend Nora Jean Hice of McMinnville, wresting brothers Adam McCormick, Stephen Martin, Brent Powers, and Lee Byford; and life-long best friends, Sawyer Fults and Waylon Boren. Several great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and other close family and friends also survive.

Brandon was an amazing artist and guitarist. He loved his friends and family unconditionally, always putting them before himself.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Warren County with Ray Weddington and Justin King officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
