Betty Joan Gahret Carter, 82, a Smithville resident and Union City, Ind., native died March 23 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness.She was a homemaker, member of First Baptist Church in Smithville, and daughter of the late Nolen Keith and Virginia Rachel Hall Gahret. Mrs. Carter was married to Gene Allen Carter, who preceded her in death June 4, 1990. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by granddaughter, Amy Lynette Carter and sister, Judy Worthen.Survivors include daughter, Chiquita Rhea of McMinnville; grandson, Kelly Carter of Rock Island; great-grandson, Brayden Carter of Rock Island; sisters, Donna Roberts and Patty Worthen; brothers, Norman, Leland and James Gahret; and several nieces and nephews.Graveside service and interment will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt.
