Alford Hoot Bales Starkey, 84

McMinnville resident and Warren County native Alford “Hoot” Bales Starkey, 84, was born Sept. 6, 1928 and died March 11 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.A retired nurseryman and a member of Smyrna Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Herman and Velma Bell Starkey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Herbert Wayne Starkey; two brothers, Bill and Charles Starkey; and two sisters, Wilma Joyce Hennessee and Violet Barrett.He was married June 29, 1956 to Nellie Mai Keel Starkey of McMinnville. In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Billy Joe and Joyce Starkey of McMinnville; two brothers and sister-in-law, Clifford and Khyva Starkey of McMinnville, and Hugh Starkey of McMinnville; brother-in-law, Morris Hennessee of McMinnville; two sisters-in-law, Isabelle Bouldin of McMinnville and Ann Starkey of Lakeland, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his family of caregivers at Raintree Manor.Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at High’s Chapel with David Costello officiating.
